HARVEST MANAGER

An application that would help farmers manage the spray plan on their crops enabling them to sell their fruits and vegetables with reduced residue levels

GROWERS DILEMMA

  • There are very strict pesticide residue level standards on crops being sold in the European market, and farmers have a very tough challenge managing pests, weeds, weather related challenges yet producing fruits and vegetables that adhere to the strict residue levels.

  • Failing to maintain residue levels causes huge losses to farmers unable to find market for their produce leading to selling their crops at locations outside their own markets.

Our idea was to help growers manage their dilemma with a digital platform that would - 

​

  • Comply with different regions residue standards

  • Provide targeted agronomic advice

  • Enable greater market access and flexibility to sell their produce

  • Minimize their cost  by reducing crop wastage due to high residue levels

Design Process

Interviews were conducted across Spain, Poland and Germany which were the primary target market for the application. The interviews helped understand the farmers goals and challenges. 

Based on the interview an affinity map was created to theme out the challenges being faced by growers, and how best to address the challenges. The affinity map also helped to validate the assumptions received from the business.

Wireframe Iteration 1

The prototype was designed in 3 iterations . The first part of the design was creating the user journey and user flow and sketching out the designs.

In the 2nd Iteration wireframes were created and tested with farmers/ growers to verify if the flow made sense

The pre-season residue planner would enable the growers -

  1. Map their fields

  2. Select their pre-defined target market, or create custom target markets

  3. Create custom spray plans

The application was tested with 20 berry growers in 3 major production countries.
